Collaborative Writing by Scott Dillon

Collaborative writing, what is it? A group of individuals working cooperatively to create or design a written document of sorts, ranging from brochures to manuals.

Key Ingredients are LEADERSHIP, EQUAL WORK AND RESPONSIBLITIES, SUPERB COMMUNICATION, and RESPECT.

6 Steps in Planning Process:
  1. Brainstorming
  2. Researching
  3. Planning (Structure/Outlining)
  4. Writing
  5. Editing
  6. Reviewing

Advantages:

  • Make the most of an individual’s strengths
  • Inspiring originality, imagination to acquire ideas and designs
  • Less time spent on a project, due to teamwork

Disadvantages:

  • Can be challenging if poor writing skills exist
  • Lack of respect, communication, flexibility can end in a tasteless, cheap and impoverish finished product
  • Take more time, if conflicts in schedules and poor communications

  1. I like the fact that you included the advantages and disadvantages of collaborative writing.
But one key disadvantage is their usually one person who doesnt hold there own weight, which usually brings the group down. The others must pick up the slack or the slacker.

  2. I like how easy to read your post is, and how concise and correct it is. References are a bit hard to see, but it's still obvious that they were done correctly. Great input, Scott! And thanks again for your HTML help, Computer Genius!:)

  3. Awesome post! Collaborative writing is something that is not too common, but is difficult when it must be done. I had an assignment last semester to write a 10 page research paper with one other person, and I think it may have been easier to do on my own!

  4. Yeah I had to write a 10 page paper and presentation last semester as well, for Information Systems? Group of 4.

    I'll fix the font :P

  5. Nice post. I would change the font though. But, the spacing and visual flow of the post is great. Your information is clear and concise, although I would like to see some more of your personality come through. I know its hard in some post, but the effort is worth it. Keep up the great work.

  6. Nice graphic and nice use of white space (or black space in the case of Busybee Bloggers.
You have one mistake...working cooperatively (not cooperative).
Good reference on the graphic. People are forgetting to credit their graphics.

  7. Your post is very concise and is easy on the eyes and mind of the reader, which is great. The part that stuck out to me the most was "making the most of an individuals strengths", which I think is a concept we have well captured through our work with BusyBee Bloggers. Thus, nice use of your experience in writing this post!

  9. I have found collaborative writing to be one of the hardest tasks I have accomplished. But in the long run I think doing so will add to my skills.
